Board of DirectorsMichael Mullen, CFA, Chairman of the Board, is currently Managing Director and Founder of Tarvos Capital Management, LLC, a research centric investment firm focused on public and private equity in growth sectors of the health care industry. Tarvos Capital has an exclusive investment research alliance with Zurich Kantonalbank's Adamant Biomedical Investors of Basel. From 1999-2005, Mr. Mullen was a member of the Bellevue Group, and as President of its U.S. Research operation, co-managed its lead products, BB Medtech and BB Biotech. From 1990 to 1999, Mr. Mullen held various positions at Cowen & Company including Partner, Managing Director and Senior Research Analyst in Medical Technology. Mr. Mullen was formerly a member of the Boards of Centelion SAS, Eyetech Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Theravance Inc. He holds a B.S. from Fordham University and an MBA from Indiana University. Paul Chaney, Director, is currently Executive Vice President of OSI Pharmaceuticals and President of (OSI) Eyetech, OSI’s eyecare subsidiary. Mr. Chaney has more than 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including serving in a variety of senior management positions at Pharmacia Corporation, a pharmaceutical company acquired by Pfizer in April 2003. At Pharmacia, he was responsible for the launch of a number of leading ophthalmic products, including Tecnis®, Healon5®, Xalatan® and Xalcom®. Mr. Chaney also served as Vice President, Global Commercial Operations of the Ophthalmology Franchise, as Vice President of the Global Ophthalmology Business and as Vice President of Global Pharmaceutical Ophthalmology. He began his career as a sales representative for The Upjohn Company in 1980. Mr. Chaney earned a double B.A. with honors in English and Biological Sciences from the University of Delaware. Praveen Tyle, Ph. D., Director, is currently Senior Vice President/Global Head Research & Development of Novartis, responsible for product development strategy and innovation, as well as driving collaboration between R&D and Global Category Management. Prior to joinin Novartis, Dr. Tyle was Vice President, Research and Development and Chief Scientific Officer of Bausch & Lomb, where he was responsible for the company's research, new product development, preclinical development, project management, clinical, medical and regulatory affairs, and product quality. Dr. Tyle holds academic appointments as an adjunct professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Rochester Eye Institute, as well as an adjunct professor of Pharmacy at the University of Rhode Island, at the Howard University, Washington DC, and at the University of Houston, Texas. He is editor of seven books about drug development, holds several patents and is the author of more than 125 technical and scientific papers and presentations. He holds a doctorate in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Ohio State University and a bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, India. Dr. Tyle is a member of the Board of Directors for Orient Europharma Ltd., Taiwan and a Scientific Advisory Board member of VioQuest Pharmaceuticals, Inc., New Jersey. J. Sebastien Cleiftie, Director, is Investment Manager of Innoven Partenaires, specializing in the life sciences. He currently serves on the board of AbAg, Immutep, Meristem Therapeutics, and Finsécur. Sebastien has 10 years of scientific research, business development and investment experience in the life sciences sector. He started his career as a scientist in immunotherapy and gene therapy research with Aventis Pharma (now sanofi-aventis) in California, and subsequently provided strategic and business development consulting services to several biotechnology firms in the United States and Europe. He received a BS in Biomedical Sciences and an MS in Immunology from University of Paris V, and an MBA from Cornell University. Thomas E. Hancock, Director has over fourteen years experience in the biopharmaceutical industry and equity capital markets. At Nexus Medical Partners he has been responsible for several investments, including A&G Pharmaceuticals, Stheno Corporation and Panacos Pharmaceuticals. Prior to joining Nexus, he was a Senior Equity Analyst and Managing Director at US Bancorp Piper Jaffray, covering both the biopharmaceutical and drug discovery tools markets. Previously, he worked in the biopharmaceutical industry at both Genentech, Inc. and COR Therapeutics, Inc. in a number of roles including business development and project management. Mr. Hancock has a BS in Molecular Biology and an MBA from UC Berkeley. Alain Maiore, Director, is General Partner of Ventech Partners. He is an Engineer from Ecole Supérieure d'Agriculture d'Angers and holds a Masters Degree from Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Toulouse. Mr. Maiore has over 20 years of international experience in the life sciences with a specialization in biotechnology. Mr. Maiore's is a seasoned corporate finance and business development executive, having completed two biotechnology IPOs, several major merger and acquisition transactions and negotiated over 10 strategic alliances with major pharmaceutical companies. Mr. Maiore is former Managing Director of Gene Shears Pty ltd; Chief Operating Officer of cerep SA, and was the Executive Vice President, Corporate and Business Development at Evotec Biosystems AG in Germany. Stephen From, Director and President and Chief Executive Officer, was formerly Chief Financial Officer at Centelion, a biotechnology subsidiary of sanofi-aventis. Prior to entering the life sciences industry, Mr. From had spent several years as an investment banker specializing in the biotechnology and medical device sectors and was most recently at Bank of America Securities as Director in the Global Healthcare Corporate and Investment Banking Group and Head of European Life Sciences. |
